Cosmopolitan Players is a city centre community theatre group based at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds. We are primarily a drama group...but we do occasional musical productions. We always need more people to ensure our future - please come along.
The foundation stones for Kippax Amateur Operatic Society, as it was originally known, were laid in 1959. It all began officially at Kippax Methodist Church in 1960, where the society performed for a number of years. In 1970, performances were moved to Castleford Civic Centre.
Since then, the society has staged pantomimes, musicals, plays, cabarets and fundraising events to bring the joy of theatre to the local community.
Leeds Amateur Operatic Society (LAOS) are a well-established and professional musical theatre company who have been performing at prestigious theatres for many years. With members based around West Yorkshire, LAOS is a well-known society with many regular followers.
Leeds Amateur Operatic Society is a prestigious musical theatre company with a reputation for spectacular and professional productions.
Leeds Arts Centre is a prestigious amateur theatre group which presents a wide variety of plays at the Carriageworks Theatre on Millennium Square in Leeds.
We offer opportunities to all who are interested in becoming involved with any aspect of drama, including acting, directing, stage management, props, design, costumes, lighting, sound, publicity and front of house.
Leeds Children's Theatre is managed and staffed by a team of dedicated volunteer members who offer their vast range of experience to our younger members, covering most aspects of theatrical production, performance and stagecraft.
The society not only produces stage plays, it also offers many of our younger members the opportunity to participate in drama workshops. We facilitate regular weekly workshops designed for our younger members aged 8+, and also a monthly drama workshop for members aged 13+.
We are a large musical theatre group with a long heritage. Leeds G&S is (probably) the UK's oldest G&S society. Established under a previous name in 1909 in Hunslet, Leeds.
Although the works of Gilbert and Sullivan are extreamly important to us, we now produce musicals from a much broader spectrum. We have won multiple awards for our most recent productions that include: Guys and Dolls, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and coming soon, Titanic.
When Insurevue disbanded in 1973, a team of enthusiastic members from the Leeds insurance industry's amateur dramatic community came together to create a new performing company. On the 14th of January 1974, 'LIDOS' was born as the company took to the stage with the opening night of Gershwin's musical, "Lady Be Good". Followed by a production of the comedy play "They Don't Grow on Trees", LIDOS continued to delight Leeds audiences with a musical and a play each year - adding an annual pantomime to this exciting lineup in 1977 with "Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp".
Whatever you write, whether fiction, non-fiction, horror, romance, children’s fiction, humour, thrillers, or poetry – or if you just enjoy listening to other people read their work – everyone is welcome.
Every two weeks we have a manuscript evening where members are invited to read their work to the group, and receive constructive feedback from people who are writers themselves.
Leeds Youth Opera offers young people in Leeds a unique opportunity to work with industry professionals on fully staged productions whilst learning about many forms of serious musical theatre.
Members are aged between 8 and 25 on joining, but existing members can stay with us until they are 29. Rehearsals are every Saturday 9.30am-12pm and principals are called according to a rehearsal schedule in the afternoon 1pm-3pm. We also rehearse on Friday evenings in the run up to the show.
